Cows

Hall

Hall is a Charolais steer that came to live with his brothers Oates and Goggles. All 3 steer grew up in Colorado on a cattle ranch. The ranch owners had a change of heart with the purpose of their operation after seeing one of their favorite cows go through the slaughter process. They decided after that experience, they no longer could raise animals for food, and bought back all of the cows they had previously sold. They turned their cattle ranch into an animal sanctuary and saved all the remaining cows and have since moved to Washington state. We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Jen and Tray from @tailsofthewestdonkeys (formerly Surf and Turf Sanctuary) and absolutely adore our 3 boys we adopted from them. Hall is a curious fellow, loves nose rubs and strawberries, but his most favorite pastime is romping around with his bestie, Oates. Hall & Oates are never far apart. We love our boys so much and love to share their unique rescue story with everyone who meets them.

Goggles, and his friend Oates, came to live at Blackbird Ranch in the Fall of 2018, and they were our sanctuaries’ first bovines! Goggles and Oates have a pretty incredible story and journey. They originally lived in Colorado on a beef cattle ranch. The family who ran the cattle ranch had a change of heart and could no longer bring themselves to raise animals as “food”, they became vegan and turned their cattle ranch into an animal sanctuary (@thesurfandturfsanctuary ). They even bought back the cows they had previously sold to save them as well! Surf and Turf Sanctuary relocated to Washington state and the cows temporarily lived at @refarmsanctuary and then were brought to live here at Blackbird Ranch! We are their 3rd sanctuary home and couldn’t be more delighted to get to know these sweet boys! Goggles is the most extroverted of the steers, he is very outgoing, gentle, loves ear rubs and carrot treats! If you’re lucky, when you visit the sanctuary, Goggles will give you the biggest, slobbery kisses and it’s the sweetest thing ever!
